ANNOUNCEMENTS/NEWS
Arlington County Public Hearing Date Set
Arlington County has engaged the services of the American Humane Association to conduct an independent, third party consultation of animal control and shelter services in Arlington. As part of that consultation process, Arlington County government will host a public forum on Monday, June 30, 2003, to receive comments about what people would like to have considered in animal control and shelter services in Arlington County.
The forum will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Room 307 (County Board meeting room) on the third floor of the County government office building at 2100 Clarendon Boulevard. The Courthouse Metro stop is at this site, and there is free parking in the garage below the building.
Representatives from the Public Health Division of the Arlington County Department of Human Services, the County Manager's Office, and the American Humane Association will be present to receive the comments.
Sign-up slips for people who would like to make a two minute oral presentation will be available at 6:45 p.m. People may supplement their oral presentation with written comments or submit only written comments. Arlington County residents will have priority in speaking. People interested in providing their input, but who are unable to attend, may send their written comments to Ms. Dotty Dake, Assistant County Manager, Arlington County Manager's Office, 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, Suite 302, Arlington, Virginia 22201 or to her attention via e-mail at countymanager@co.arlington.va.us. A sign language interpreter will be available if requested by Monday, June 23rd, by calling 703-228-4611 TTY on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
June 7 Dog Hike! The rain will end someday, so in the spirit of true optimism, Arlington County and ArlingtonDogs are celebrating National Trails Day on June 7. We're holding a dog hike! No fee, no registration. Hikers are meeting at the Bluemont Park train Caboose at 10am on Saturday, June 7, and will walk to Banneker Community Canine Area (3 miles roundtrip). Trail follows the W&OD hike/bike trail. We'll have bandanas, frisbees, poop bags, water, leashes (to discourage flexileads), and an information table at the caboose. Your participation in the hike and help in spreading the word would be appreciated. Also, we're looking for a couple of volunteers to help out. Please contact Becky Halbe directly (halber@bellatlantic.net) if you can help or if you have questions.
