PUBLIC SITE TOUR FOR POTENTIAL MADISON COMMUNITY DOG PARK REPLACEMENT

Dog park supporters are invited to join the Ft. Ethan Allen CCA Task Force on a site tour of potential replacement sites for the Madison community dog park on Saturday, May 22nd beginning at 9:00 am in the Madison Community Center Parking Lot (rain or shine). As always, the North Arlington opposition group will be vocal and no doubt protesting with signs-- so your support is critical.

You should know that most of the Task Force members have taken their responsibility seriously and professionally and have willingly donated their own time to this effort. MadisonDogs encourages dog park supporters to be respectful and positive. If you bring signs, please show your support for the Task Force community process, such as: "Thank You Task Force Members!" and "We Love Madison CCA!"

Unfortunately dogs are not invited on the site tour and you will need to provide your own transportation to the various sites. The tour route is as follows and you are invited to join at any point of the journey:

9:00 AM-Madison Community Center, the "Yellow" and current site.

9:45 AM- Gulf Branch Park, the former Williams site. Meet at the dead end of N. 37th St. near N. Randolph St.

10:30 AM- Taylor Park, next to Military Rd. Meet near the hydrangeas.

11:15 AM- Marcey Park, various locations. Meet near the tennis courts.

Wrap up is at noon and the Task Force Members return to the Madison Community Center in County vehicles at 12:15.

Visit MadisonDogs website at www.geocities.com/madisondogs (or the county website: www.co.arlington.va.us/forums/ethan/index.htm) or contact MadisonDogs at www.madisondogs@yahoo.com for more information.

Old Glebe Civic Association Meeting

The Old Glebe Civic Association is holding a general membership meeting on Saturday, May 15th from 2-4pm at Madison COMMUNITY Center. The agenda includes discussions of officer elections, amendments to constitution and bylaws, update on dog park relocation, and proposed projects for the civic association! If you are fortunate enough to reside in this very special community, feel free to attend the meeting and participate in the process!

"Dog Park Follies"

You are cordially invited to join Madison dog park supporters for what the Old Glebe Civic Association has coined "Dog Park Follies" in a tour of the proposed sites under consideration by the Madison dog park relocation Task Force on Saturday, May 22 at 9 AM beginning at the Madison COMMUNITY Center.

The Yellow 6 site at the Madison COMMUNITY Center will be reviewed and other areas under consideration may be visited as well. This includes the 'Williams Property' (off Military and N. 37th St.), which is adjacent to the Sanctuary meadow and "intrudes" into Gulf Branch. WARNING: Old Glebe Civic Association and other groups will be circulating petitions to oppose potential dog park sites in their neighborhoods, especially the Madison COMMUNITY Center (Yellow) and 37th Street Williams Property. Please read any petitions and sign only pro-dog park versions.

Arlington residents are invited to "tag along" but have been requested to leave their dogs at home for this gathering. Transportation is NOT provided. Details of the tour will be posted on the Arlington County web site (www.co.arlington.va.us) under the link to 'community forums', or just type in 'Fort Ethan Allen' in the search box. Or visit MadisonDogs website: http://www.geocities.com/madisondogs/.

Bottom line for us is that we need to organize and be very visible! Be sure to say hello to Madison Task Force Chairman Peter Fallon and other Task Force members who continue to donate countless hours serving all Arlington County residents in this dog park relocation effort! Come show your support of one of Arlington's most popular features--our dog parks!

Madison COMMUNITY Center Pet Parade in the Gym!

Wednesday, May 19th, 2-3pm

Please join us for the Arlington Neighborhood Day parade tomorrow (Saturday, May 8). ArlingtonDogs gets in line near the Clarendon Metro station and parades down Wilson Boulevard to the Courthouse.

These walks are a lot of fun and a great way to demonstrate how dogs and dog parks are part of Arlington neighborhoods.

The parade begins at 2 p.m., so come a few minutes early and find us in line!

**************************

Thanks to everyone who came to the ArlingtonDogs annual meeting April 29 at Whitlow’s on Wilson.

We had plenty of shrimp and fun, and got a lot of business done, too.

Judy Green, Brian Mac Keil and Maureen Farrell were elected to serve on the board of directors through the spring of 2007. Anne Fisher, Suzanne Bolton and Laura Sharkey remain through 2006; and Rebecca Halbe, Lois Trumbull and Peter Spaulding are on through next year.

The board has a lot to discuss and will do so at our next meeting, May 24.

If you have a socialized dog 30 pounds or under, please consider joining ArlingtonDogs members and their canine companions in providing pet therapy for the residents of The Carlin apartments for Seniors, near Ballston. Sessions are one Saturday a month and last for about an hour, weather permitting.

We’ve been doing this for about three years now. It has been very successful and the residents really enjoy the visits.

The Carlin is under new management and the rules and requirements for our pet therapy sessions have changed slightly. All visits now take place in their fenced-in court yard.

If you are interested in participating in the “Doggie Connection” – named by the residents -- please e-mail Michelle Prettyman at: michelle_prettyman@yahoo.com
