Storm Restoration Management Project
at the Glencarlyn Community Canine Area!

Several months ago, GlenDogs, the Glencarlyn Community Canine Area (CCA) sponsoring group and Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Resources (DPRCR) posted signs at the CCA informing park users that the Storm Restoration Management Project would be completed in July. ArlingtonDogs applied for this grant to ameliorate storm run-off erosion damage in the CCA and to help preserve the park for many years to come. This grant application was approved by Arlington County and partially funded through a Small Parks Grant.

Arlington County has been very supportive of this project and for that we are grateful. Unfortunately, due to equipment and labor issues, there was a delay in the start of the project. Please be assured that both GlenDogs and DPRCR are aware that the bulletin board, bench, and side walk were removed or damaged by the excavation. These valuable amenities will be restored upon completion of the Storm Restoration Management Project. Additionally, small rocks that are present now are actually rocks that were buried and have come to the surface as a result of the excavation. DPRCR staff is going to address this issue.

Please continue to be patient as this project comes to a close. The long-term benefits will allow all park users to enjoy this park for many years to come! When completed, this project will be a huge improvement for the entire Four Mile Run watershed and ultimately help the Chesapeake Bay. Additional commitments to this project include the planting of native shrubs.

If you have any suggestions or any questions regarding this project, please contact ArlingtonDogs at: arlingtondogs@hotmail.com or 703.578.0522 or Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation at 703.228.6525

Thank you!

Come to the Arlington County Fair!

As usual, ArlingtonDogs has a table at this year’s County Fair, Aug. 19 through 22, at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center near the intersection of Route 50 and Glebe Road.

The fair runs Thursday night (Aug. 19) from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

We can use your help!

It’s a great chance to see Arlington at its best and spend a couple hours telling people all about ArlingtonDogs and dog parks. Plus you can peruse several indoor exhibits and a craft fair, and there are plenty of rides and carnival delights outside for you and the kids!

Maureen Farrell is busily recruiting volunteers to staff the booth. Maureen will be setting up 2-hour shifts, so it would be great for you to sign up for one or more of those, even a couple in a row.

Please come and enjoy and help us out! If you are willing to help, please contact Maureen at arlingtondogs@hotmail.com. Every little bit helps!

For more on the fair, log on to http://www.arlingtoncountyfair.org/.

Calling All Holiday Mugs!!!

ArlingtonDogs has teamed with Friends of Arlington Parks in an effort to help cheer up area senior citizens during the winter holidays!

Clean out your cupboards and donate any Christmas and Holiday mugs to us at our table (E-8) this summer at the Arlington County Fair (August 19-22)! We will fill these festive mugs with lip balm, hand cream, or tea for delivery to Arlington senior citizens in December! Or if you’d simply like to “sponsor” a mug, we will have some available at the Fair!

If you can help ArlingtonDogs by contributing a mug for with this worthwhile project or can help staff our table at the Fair, contact Judy Green at muttsrule@hotmail.com or by calling 703-338-4741.
