Background
The draft Public Spaces Master Plan (PSMP) updates the 1994 Open Space Master Plan, which is an element of Arlington's Comprehensive Plan. Developed in conjunction with the Park and Recreation Commission and the Open Space Master Plan Task Force, it is designed to guide decision making for Arlington's public spaces including administration, funding, operations, maintenance and capital projects.
Since 2001, there has been an extensive community process that has included several community forums, numerous Open Space Master Plan Task Force meetings, as well as smaller working group meetings that delved into six specific focus areas. Additionally, two mail/telephone surveys were administered as part of this effort: a household recreation survey in 2002 and a youth recreation survey in 2003.
Additional information about the Public Spaces Master Plan is available at www.arlingtonva.us. The draft plan is available for review at all Arlington Public Libraries. If you would like a copy of the draft and/or the executive summary by mail, or have questions about the plan, please call County staff at (703) 228-3322.
