ArlingtonDogs Elects new Board

ArlingtonDogs held its annual meeting in Fairlington on June 24, and a new slate of board members is set to carry the mission forward.

Returning to the board are longtime dog park advocates Suzanne Bolton, Franz Misch and Lois Trumbull.

And there are lots of new faces, too.

Coday Cunningham, the chief go-to person at the Fort Barnard Community Canine Area will bring her expertise. So will longtime Towers volunteer Smaran Gollamudi and Shirlington regular Stacey Theodorou. Rounding out the team are two new faces – Kim Houghton and Mitch Jones, both of whom have recently started dog-oriented businesses near the Shirlington CCA.

And longtime park advocates Maureen Farrell, Keith Fred, Brian Mac Keil, Becky Halbe and Bob Deason have pledged to keep active in the group.

The board will meet the third Wednesday of every month from now on. The meeting is open to all ArlingtonDogs members, so you can join them at the Fairlington Community Center in room 100 on July 15, when officers and duties will be divvied up. Thereafter, the meetings will be in room 103. The meetings start at 7:30 and have to end by 9 due to the new hours at the Fairlington Community Center.

There will be no meeting in August as the third Wednesday is the same night ADogs will set up its booth at the Arlington County Fair. More on that later, but we will need lots of volunteers help to spread the word and raise some money.

And if you haven’t joined, or renewed your membership, please consider it. And thanks to all who have re-upped so far. As of the Board elections, about $1,000 had been collected in renewals for 2009!

Congratulations to the new board and thanks to all the members that make the work on Arlington CCAs worthwhile.

JOIN US AT THE ANNUAL MEETING!

ArlingtonDogs is holding its Annual Meeting, June 24, and we are looking for lots of people to come and help us strengthen the organization.

Many of the nine slots on the Board of Directors are up for grabs, and I want to make sure you know you are more than welcome to throw in your hat.

As an umbrella group for all Arlington Community Canine Areas, we hope to have every CCA represented on the board. Or you could represent your CCA by just coming to a handful of meetings and keeping the communication lines open.

We also know the organization can be more effective if we enlarge the circle of management to people who have a niche interests but perhaps not able to commit to a regular monthly Board meeting. For instance, we need a volunteer coordinator or two, so if you have such experience or the yen to try, please let us know. Volunteering as a press coordinator could be your role. Another adjunct role might be fund raising. If you have experience or think you could make a contribution in this arena, please consider volunteering.

Basically, we are just trying to complete and expand our circle of dog park friends. So please join us on the 24th. The meeting will be held at the Fairlington Community Center in room 100 at 7:30. That is the former elementary school in the Fairlington neighborhood on the south side of I-395.

We need your help, and would very much value your participation in the manner best suiting you time and energy availability.
